The "GSC Game Plan" show returns to the airwaves tonight at 8 p.m. on KABZ 103.7, The Buzz. With hosts Grant Merrill and the ubiquitous Rex Nelson, "GSC Game Plan" is the only statewide radio show devoted to NCAA Division II sports, specifically the Gulf South Conference. Jim Cavale will also co-host the program from Birmingham, Ala., where the conference headquarters are located. The show features numerous interviews with Gulf South coaches and commentators including Gulf South commissioner Nate Salant who is a frequent guest. Listeners are likely to hear from at least three coaches, if not more, each week.
Tonight, Ronnie Huckeba, interim head coach at Harding University, will be featured and will talk about what the 2007 season holds for the Bison following the resignation of Randy Tribble yesterday.
A common complaint heard from some radio listeners is that most radio shows appear to be focused on the University of Arkansas. Justin Acri, The Buzz's program director, has said in a statement that the show is on the air due in part to the "thousands of loyal fans" who needed an outlet to receive more in-depth coverage of the smaller schools from around the state.
"GSC Game Plan" will follow "Drive Time Sports" on Wednesday nights throughout the football season. A basketball version of the show will likely be scheduled in 2008.
And a personal note from myself to Grant Merrill: Go easy on the bumper music.
