Who knows if the latest addition to ASU’s basketball team will make the all-Sun Belt Conference team?
We do know this: He’s a lock if the league puts together an all-name team.
Jay-R Strowbridge, one of the more unique names in college athletics, will join the Red Wolves thanks to a NCAA rule that allows graduates with eligibility remaining to transfer free of penalty. Strowbridge was recently announced as an addition to the ASU roster after graduating from Jacksonville State.
Strowbridge told the Jonesboro Sun a little more about his decision:
“I saw guys transfer to other schools, and I knew I was going to have the opportunity to graduate early. Maybe around March or April, I started seeing that I’m on course to graduate. I wanted to go somewhere, and this isn’t a knock on any other school, where I would have the opportunity to win a conference championship and just to win. Everything else takes care of itself."
ASU needs a big year from Strowbridge. He’ll replace last year’s Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Brandon Reed, who transferred to Georgia Tech.
Strowbridge is a bit of a nomad himself. He spent two seasons at Nebraska before transferring to Jacksonville State, leaving that program in January.
