Jose Canseco vs. Gary Hogan: The Aftermath

7/12/2010 at 12:36pm

The Internet has been in a frenzy since we posted a story and video of Friday’s Jose Canseco bout against Gary Hogan before the Arkansas Travelers game. Several national blogs linked to our video fo the Hogan-Canseco bout for charity.

Sure, the summer can be pretty dull for sports fans, especially if the big news is the World Cup final (Spain won) and an ‘oracle octopus’ that can predict game results correctly.

We were a bit surprised that the Canseco "fight" created such a buzz, but even more amazing were the heated responses from Canseco blasting critics and followers on his Twitter page. While we wrote about Canseco’s 39-37 defeat to Hogan, we didn’t expect Canseco to get so defensive following the fight.

Canseco tweeted:

“Hogan is a 60 year old man that couldn't defend himself give him his day in the sun.if you would hurt a guy like that I would crack your skull in the ring.”

Canseco then went on to threaten people on twitter, also tweeting:

“I would crack your skill in the ring.”

Comments galore have swept over the YouTube video we put up and other sites that linked to us, such as Yahoo’s UFC blog and Back Porch Fanhouse, which was a backdoor link by Huffington Post.

The debate has raged as to whether the fight was set up, Canseco didn’t try, or Hogan legitimately held his own against the 1988 American League MVP, who was 16 years younger and nearly 45 pounds heavier than Hogan.

Funny how a simple minor league promotion can evolve into such hoopla on the Internet.
