Arkansas State continues to garner recognition for its defensive players.
Defensive tackle Bryan Hall was recognized as the preseason all-Sun Belt Conference defensive player of the year during the league’s media days. Hall is the third consecutive Red Wolf to be tabbed as the top defensive player entering the year.
Hall joins defensive end Alex Carrington (2009) and safety Tyrell Johnson (2008) as preseason all-Sun Belt player of the year selections. According to the Jonesboro Sun, Hall was the only nominee for the award.
Here’s more from the Sun:
Sun Belt Conference Associate Commissioner John McElwain confirmed the ballot did not include nominees from other schools. Write-in candidates were not counted in the voting procedure.
“The schools nominate players and that is just the way that it came out,” McElwain told The Sun.
Asked if Hall was the only player nominated, McElwain replied, “That is the conclusion that you can draw. We here at the Sun Belt office don’t nominate any of the players. The schools have to nominate them to be voted on and counted.”
Regardless, Hall is in good company. Both Carrington and Johnson went on to the NFL.
