JONESBORO -- Arkansas State will unveil its 2010 edition of Red Wolves on Friday with media day at 11 a.m., followed later in the day by the first practice of fall camp starting at 5:15 p.m.
Arkansas State returns 50 lettermen and 25 players that started at least one game last season, including 2010 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Bryan Hall (Sr., defensive lineman, Paducah, Ky.) and fellow preseason all-conference choices Demario Davis (Jr., linebacker, Brandon,?Miss.) and Derek Newton (Sr., offensive lineman, Utica, Miss.).
Most eyes will be on the quarterback battle and who might emerge as the starter between sophomore Ryan Aplin, who played in the Red Wolves last four games and amassed 1,200 total yards, and reshirt freshman Phillip Butterfield, who came off knee surgery to quarterback the team throughout spring drills in April. Aplin underwent shoulder surgery after the 2009 season and missed the spring.
ASU in the spring implemented a new hurry-up, no-huddle offense directed by new offensive coordinator Hugh Freeze.
Arkansas State opens its season Sept. 4 against Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Red Wolves’ home opener is scheduled for Sept. 18 against Louisiana-Monroe.
Arkansas State will practice 19 times before classes begin Aug. 23.
