With A.J. Burnett out with a back injury, New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi turned to another Arkansan to take the mound. Originally set to pitch against the Rays tomorrow, Texarkana native and former Razorback Dustin Moseley instead started last night's game against the Boston Red Sox.
In his third start, the right-hander worked the corners with a fastball that rarely exceeded 90 mph and gave up six hits and two runs, including a homer to Hall.
Moseley eked out of a bases loaded jam he created with two, two-out walks after a single by Victor Martinez. He got Ryan Kalish to ground out to Teixeira at first base.
Moseley kept the Sox scoreless through his first three innings, only offering 33 pitches. In his 6 1/3 innings, he threw 87 pitches and struck out five.
Moseley's wife sent out a mass text before the game, alerting "everyone we know" as Moseley put it, that his start had been moved up two days. With Derek Jeter passing Babe Ruth on the team's hit list, plenty of attention was already focused on the Bronx for the ESPN-televised game. Jeter later said about Moseley, "he doesn't seem fazed by too much."
As Mosley told the New York Times, “You can’t dream anything better.”
