Arkansas coaches felt like competition for positions would be at an all-time high in the practices leading up to the season opener. Apparently, many of those battles are ongoing.

There are eight positions on the depth chart listed with multiple starters designated as “OR”. Running back, center, left guard, nose guard, outside linebacker, one cornerback spot, place kicker and punter are all still up for grabs.

Players will participate in a mock game tonight to make a late push for starting time. Practices presumably will also be monitored in the days leading up to the season opener against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 3.

Perhaps the most surprsing position battle is taking place at outside linebacker between Jerry Franklin and Anthony Leon. Franklin is a two-year starter at linebacker and team captain, while Leon only recently moved to linebacker after spending his entire football career at safety.
