2010 Arkansas High School Kickoff Classic Continues Tonight

8/31/2010 at 9:12am

The 2010 First Security Bank Kickoff Classic, hosted by ArkansasSports360.com and The Buzz 103.7, concludes this evening with two exciting match-ups. Football fans will see some outstanding rivalries with some top recruits in action.

Tickets are $7, which includes admission to two games, LR Mills vs LR Parkview at 5 p.m., followed by Cabot vs Jacksonville at 7:30. Tickets will be sold at Gates 1, 7 and 9.

LR MILLS vs LR PARKVIEW
Though LR Mills is part of the Pulaski County Special School District, Coach Patrick Russell sees tonight's game against LR Parkview as a rivalry that can shine a positive light on Little Rock schools. Parkview Coach William Hardiman also sees this afternoon's game as a chance for fans to see what's good in the capital city. (VIDEO).

Russell is happy to have quarterback Chris Hampton back for one more year. “He makes real good cuts and is real shifty,” Russell said of Hampton. “He’s hard to run down in the open field.” (Mills Triple-threat QB Flexes Muscles)

The Patriots, once among the strongest programs in the state with a trophy case full of championship hardware from the 1970s and early 1980s, are coming off of a run to the second round of the playoffs and an 8-4 season in 2009. They are ready to reload the muskets for 2010. (Parkview Patriots Lean on Dynamic Duo)

And Jim Harris gives The Last Word on how Parkview and Mills can reignite Little Rock's committment to high school football.

CABOT vs JACKSONVILLE
The Cabot/Jacksonville rivalry has lasted so long, Cabot Coach Mike Malham first participated in the annual contest while coaching at Jacksonville. Jacksonville Coach Rick Russell has only been on the helm since the summer, but his ties to the Red Devils go back to when he was an assistant coach with Jacksonville as well. Tonight, the two teams will battle for a traveling trophy and stake claim to which team between Mile Markers 8 and 19 on Highway 67/167 is the best. (VIDEO)

No opponent has to look hard for a scouting report on the Cabot Panthers. They’ve been lining up and powering right at folks with smash-mouth football for 29 seasons under Mike Malham, and that’s the plan again this year. (Count on Cabot To Run at People)

Optimism abounds in Jacksonville that Russell can greatly improve on a disappointing 2-8 season in 2009. Of course, like a certain Southeastern Conference coach with Little Rock roots, and a penchant for straw hats and walking into gold mines, Russell inherits a team poised to do much better in 2010.
