Two University of Central Arkansas seniors closed out their football careers by being named Southland Conference Players of the Week on Monday.
Defensive end Markell Carter and placekicker/punter Eddie Carmona were named the Defensive and Special Teams players of the week by the conference.
Carter, a 6-foot-4, 248-pounder from Bartlesville, Okla., was all over the field in Saturday’s 28-24 victory over McNeese State. He had seven total tackles, including two tackles for loss and a 19-yard sack. Carter also returned a fumble 36 yards for a touchdown that gave the Bears a 21-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
Carter led the Southland Conference in tackles for loss this season with 19 and tied for third in sacks with 5.5. He was also led the league in fumble recoveries with four and tied for fifth in fumbles forces.
Carmona, a 6-0, 211-pound specialist, was 4 of 4 on point-after attempts on Saturday and also punted six times for a 43.0-yard average. Carmona had a 65-yarder that was downed at the McNeese 5.
Carmona finished third in the SLC in kick scoring, fourth in field goals and fifth in punting.
The Bears closed out their season with a 28-24 victory over McNeese State on Saturday, giving them a 7-4 overall record and a 4-3 conference mark.
