Arkansas To Seek Raises For All Nine Assistant Football Coaches In January

12/22/2010 at 7:30pm

Arkansas will ask the Board of Trustees for $190,200 worth of football coaching salary raises in 2011.

Increases in compensation are being sought for all nine members of the on-field coaching staff. Offensive coordinator Garrick McGee would get the biggest bump, from $300,000 to $336,000 annually if approved on Jan. 28.

McGee, Steve Caldwell and Kris Cinkovich are under multi-year deals that expire in 2012. John L. Smith and Willy Robinson have multi-year deals that expire with the next month, but both would be considered “annual appointments” for next season, a school spokesman explained.

Coach Bobby Petrino said last week he hoped to keep the staff intact.

Coach Bobby Petrino agreed earlier this month to sign a deal that will pay him an average of $3.56 million per year through 2017. His incentive bonus payments and longevity bonuses increased, all part of the school rewarding him for quickly rebuilding the program.

Arkansas, 10-2 this season, will face Ohio State in the Jan. 4 Sugar Bowl, the first BCS bowl for the Razorbacks since the system was implemented in 1998. Also, the Razorbacks were ranked from start to finish for the first time since 1989.
