Summer SEC Picks

7/25/2011 at 8:55am

We're suspicious. Very suspicious. Not one, but two out-of-state sports media writers are giving props to the Arkansas Razorbacks, currently picked to finish third in the SEC West by many sports "experts."

First, there's John Adams of GoVolsXtra.com, who starts by saying "Tennessee fans need to start pulling for another team," and ends it by practically calling the Hogs right there at the end of his column:

Not only are the Razorbacks a dark-horse contender, they should be the most entertaining team in the league with coach Bobby Petrino calling the offensive shots for all those talented running backs and wide receivers.

There's compelling history to consider with the Razorbacks. You would have to question the humanity of any UT fan who doesn't have a soft spot in his heart for the Hogs after what happened at Neyland Stadium in 1998.

Kind words, and hey, thanks for that reminder about 1998! We'd almost gone 20 minutes without thinking about that fumble.

Next, from a link found on Woopig.net, we hear some words from Kevin Scarbinsky of the Birmingham News, who says he knows of a team that's capable of being the next Auburn, picked 8-5 and going 14-0:

I know a team with a head coach who, like Chizik, used to be an Auburn coordinator who knows how to win and who was ripped to shreds - unfairly - when he took his current job.

Meet Bobby Petrino and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

"Unfairly?" Did we really just hear a non-Arkansas writer use that word? What is going on here?

We always thought the day we'd hear kind words from the Tennessee and Alabama media would be the era that pigs fly. We're keeping an eye on the skies.
