Broderick Green might be available as soon as Saturday. He was declared out for the season after knee surgery during spring practice.

News and notes from Thursday’s Arkansas football media availability …

I. Quick Healer
Broderick Green was diagnosed with an ACL tear in spring football. It was an injury that figured to keep him out of action for the 2011 season.

Green is pushing that timetable. In fact, he’s been practicing with the Razorbacks for three weeks and could see game action as early as this weekend against No. 14 Texas A&M. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.

“Broderick will play this year,” Coach Bobby Petrino said. “He’s amazing, how quickly he’s came back from it. He’s been cleared by the doctors. He’s actually been getting practice in for three weeks. This week was his first time full-go. He’ll certainly play.”

Asked about Knile Davis, who broke an ankle in the first scrimmage of fall camp, Petrino said he “won’t be ready” to play this year. Davis has been walking without his boot, but still has plenty of recovery and rehab ahead of him.

II. Bequette Update
Defensive end Jake Bequette has been upgraded to a “game-time decision” for Saturday’s meeting with Texas A&M. Bequette has missed the last two weeks with hamstring issues.

Petrino said Bequette has gotten in work this week and did more Thursday than any other day. Thursdays are the lightest days and the team doesn’t go in full pads.

Doctors will consult with Petrino and Bequette on Saturday prior to the game.

“I’m encouraged that he’s gotten better and improved enough that we have a decision to make,” Petrino said. That’s a good thing.”

Cornerback Isaac Madison “should be ready.” Madison was knocked out of last week’s Alabama game with an undisclosed arm injury.

III. Inside Job
Arkansas spent the first two days of practice inside. The Razorbacks finished the week’s preparations for A&M inside Razorback Stadium.

Petrino explained the early work in the Walker Pavilion as a way to keep the team out of the heat. He wants the Razorbacks fresh for their 11 a.m. kickoff.

“I just felt like this is one of the hottest falls I’ve been through. And I felt like I wanted to go inside, get them out of the heat for a couple of days,” Petrino said. “See if that helps us freshen up on an 11 o’clock kickoff. If it wasn’t an 11 o’clock kickoff, I wouldn’t have worried about it. Then we got off the field a little quicker today. Got out of our meetings quicker so we could start earlier.

“Just trying to make sure we’re fresh for kickoff.”

Speaking Out
“We worked D.D. Jones at end in camp, and thank God we did.”
—Bobby Petrino on dwindling depth at defensive end. Jones was recruited as a defensive tackle, but has played snaps at end this week.
