After an 8-3 season, including wins in its last seven regular season games, UCA will travel to Cookeville, Tenn., this Saturday to face Tennessee Tech in the first round of the FCS playoffs. It's the first D-I postseason appearance the Bears have received in any sport.
(The Bears have done better than their second place finish in the Southland, but that was in 2008 when the football team was still making the transition to FCS status and was ineligible for any playoff appearances.)
In addition to Saturday's game, head football coach Clint Conque was named Monday as one of 20 semifinalists for the 25th Eddie Robinson Award, which honors the national coach of the year in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision. Conque has an 88-50 overall record at UCA and is the winningest football coach in school history. He was also a finalist in 2008, finishing seventh in the final voting.
