Goose Hunt Authorized For Burns Park In December. Really.

11/30/2011 at 12:33pm

Goose hunts. At Burns Park. In North Little Rock. Because coyote cutouts didn't work.

!!!

That’s about all I can offer right now on this story from the Associated Press:

Hunters in North Little Rock will be allowed to shoot Canada geese for three days next month in a park where the birds have fouled soccer fields.

Park Ranger Kate Finefield says the council voted Monday evening to pass an ordinance that will temporarily allow firearms in Burns Park. About 200 geese live there.

Finefield says the hunt will take place Dec. 20-22 and that the park will be closed each day during the hunt.

Some soccer games scheduled in the park had to be moved because of the geese's voluminous droppings and a water ski club has had trouble using the lake because of the birds.

The park has tried nonlethal methods of frightening the geese, including cutouts of coyotes, but they haven't worked.

Thoughts?
