Stephen F. Austin will visit Central Arkansas in Southland Conference men's basketball action Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Toyota Game of the Week on the Southland Conference Television Network.
Central Arkansas have been a streaky team this season. After losing their first three games, they won the next five and are now trying to snap a five-game losing streak, including an 0-1 start in league play. The Bears are 5-8 overall and have already matched last year's win total. LaQuentin Miles leads all Southland Conference scorers with his 17.1 points per game. He is the Bears' only double-figure scorer through other three players average more than nine points per game, including Jordan Harks (9.9), Jarvis Garner (9.7) and Mark Rutledge (9.5). Harks, who moved into the starting lineup three games ago, is the team's top rebounder, pulling down 6.1 per game. UCA leads the Southland win offensive rebounds, averaging 15.8 per game.
The Lumberjacks are 2-0 in conference play after a last-second victory at Texas State last Wednesday and a 63-36 home-court win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday. The 36 points is the lowest point total by an SFA opponent during the 12-year tenure of head coach Danny Kaspar. The Lumberjacks, who are 8-7 overall and one of four 2-0 teams in the Southland, have held their first 15 opponents under 70 points, while the school record is 16 consecutive games to open the 2007-08 squad.
While looking for its first conference win of the season, Central Arkansas is also trying to win its first game against Stephen F. Austin. The Lumberjacks lead 7-0 after winning 76-63 last year in Nacogdoches.
