Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino will not make an in-home visit with wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham as a “proactive step” to avoid any risk of a violation in the recruitment process after a brief encounter earlier this month.
CBS Sports reported on Wednesday that Petrino and Green-Beckham, a highly-coveted prospect from Springfield, Mo., “bumped into each other earlier this month in San Antonio, Texas, possibly creating an NCAA recruiting issue.” College football writer Dennis Dodd quotes Beckham's high school coach/foster father as saying the "bump" occurred with Green-Beckham in town for an all-star game and Petrino attending a coaches' convention.
What happened was not against NCAA rules, according to a UA spokesman, but head coaches are only allowed one contact with a prospect during the recruiting period. Petrino's brief encounter with the USA Today and Parade player of the year will count as his contact.
“No violation occurred and we are taking proactive steps we feel necessary to avoid any risk of one,” a UA spokesman said.
Arkansas is one of four finalists for Green-Beckham's services. He'll choose between the Razorbacks, Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma on signing day.
Green-Beckham is considered the top prospect in the country by a number of recruiting services. He's the consensus top wide receiver.
