ASU's M.D. Jennings was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday following his strong showing in the Red Wolves' season opener at No. 22 Auburn last Saturday.
The senior safety led Arkansas State's defense against the Tigers, recording a team-high 11 tackles that included a career-best 1.5 tackles for loss. Jennings, who recorded ASU's only sack of Tiger quarterback Cam Newton, was also responsible for forcing one fumble and recovering another.
The Calhoun City, Miss., native posted double-figure tackles in a game for the fourth time of his career and his 11 stops were just two short of his career-high 13. Jennings' sack was the third of his career and he now has two career forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. His career-best 1.5 stops behind the line gives him 5.5 tackles for loss for his career.

Quite a few jaws dropped after television commentator Dan Hampton predicted that the Minnesota Vikings would win their game against the New Orleans Saints by hitting them "like Katrina". Ouch. Thousands dead on the Gulf Coast, billions of dollars in damage and just a few weeks after its fifth anniversary, Hampton feels the need to use the disaster in a bad sports metaphor. We assume that if he was a Saints fan, maybe he would've forecasted them to hit Minnesota like a bridge falling down.
The former Razorback has since apologized for his remark, and, as Mark Florio points out, proceeds to say he's not making excuses by making excuses and claims not to have made light of the hurricane even though he apologizes for making light of the hurricane.
On Sunday, he said the Dallas Cowboys were less like "Eastwood" and more like "Brokeback", comparing the NFL team to a movie about ranch hands who sodomize each other in the mountains. We get the idea that Hampton is doing his own writing these days.
Look, it's some weird basic cable show that runs when most fans are either still sleeping off a hangover or sitting in a pew. You could say that Hampton is just trying to stir up some attention like a radio shock jock bouncing dirty zingers off of a giggling sidekick. If that's how he wants to earn a paycheck, then fine. It's a free country. However, with freedom of speech comes the freedom of an employer getting tired of pulling up the apology form letters every week. Hamp needs to keep his mouth shut.
We definitely know we're not interested in hearing his Baltimore/NY Jets prediction for 9/13.
