UALR senior guard D'Andre Williams said it's the natural tendency of a team up 13 points in the second half to "take a deep breath." Williams added, "We took a deep breath and they came back." Western Kentucky took over the game while UALR caught its breath, outscoring the Trojans 22-3 over a seven-minute stretch and beat the tourney second seed 68-63 on Sunday night in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinal round in Hot Springs. read more >

AP: Trojans Eye Return To NCAA Field, Prepare For Run Through Sun Belt Tournament
Solomon Bozeman provided the lasting memory of last season's Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Trojans (15-15) shocked the field last season, winning the tournament and earning the school's first NCAA tournament appearance in 21 years. They did so as a No. 5 seed and it was Bozeman, the league's player of the year, who sank a deep 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds remaining to lift UALR past North Texas 64-63. Bozeman graduated after last season, along with four other seniors for the Trojans. The remaining teammates hope to build on that memory and last year's success at this season's conference tournament, which begins today in Hot Springs. read more >

UALR point guard D'Andre Williams was a first-team selection to the All-Sun Belt Conference men's basketball team, the league announced Wednesday. His teammate, sophomore forward Will Neighbour, was named to the second team. Arkansas State senior forward Malcoln Kirkland was named to the men's third team All-Sun Belt. Three in-state players made the Women's All-Conference Team as well, with UALR's Taylor Gault earning first-team honors and while being named the league's Freshman of the Year. read more >

Making a last-second dash to the other end, Tramar Sutherland was fouled on a layup attempt with eight-tenths of a second showing on the clock and, after a time out, hit the two foul shots to give UALR a 62-60 win over Arkansas State on Saturday night before a near capacity crowd at the Jack Stephens Center. The win gave UALR the outright Sun Belt West Division championship with 12-4 league mark. read more >

Jim's Notebook: Rivals Tangle As UALR Goes For Sun Belt West Crown Against Arkansas State
Simply because it's Arkansas State coming to town, and because the schools' women's teams will meet in the first game of a basketball doubleheader, UALR should enjoy its best crowd of the season Saturday night at the Jack Stephens Center. UALR figured to have the Sun Belt West Division championship already locked up after it played North Texas on Thursday night. Instead, with the Trojans falling 75-67 to the Mean Green, Arkansas State can play the role of a spoiler and deny UALR the title, which would suit Red Wolves Coach John Brady just fine. read more >
