Jim's Notebook: What Might Have Been For Brady, ASU; Middle Tennessee Deserves NCAA Bid
Brandon Reed would have been a big part of Arkansas State's basketball program, had somebody not talked him into joining Georgia Tech's now-stuggling basketball program. And Middle Tennessee may rue its 64-61 loss to Arkansas State even though it scheduled well enough to have a nice-looking resume for the NCAA Tournament selection committee. read more >

Sun Belt Full-Court Press: North Texas 76, Arkansas State 72

The night after top seed Middle Tennessee all but handed the game to ninth-seed Arkansas State by missing every opportunity at the free-throw line in the final minutes of a tight contest, North Texas hit 8 of 10 free throws in the last 46 seconds Monday night and denied the revived Red Wolves a possible Sun Belt Men's Tournament championship, winning 76-72. read more >

Jim Harris: Red Wolves Can't Complain About Fan Support In Hot Springs
Despite just 12 league victories between them and a combined 24-36 record over the regular season, neither of Arkansas State's basketball programs — men or women — could be disappointed with the support in red and black in the stands Saturday. It probably helped the women's team that the men also were scheduled to open Sun Belt Conference Tournament play Saturday, on the same Hot Springs Convention Center Court. Sun Belt Full-Court Press: Arkansas State 70, Florida Atlantic 55
Though the Arkansas State Red Wolves struggled with their perimeter shooting Saturday night, they constantly attacked the basket and drew fouls, hitting 28 of 37 free throws and overpowering guard-oriented Florida Atlantic in the opening round of the Sun Belt Men's Tournament in Hot Springs. ASU, despite its 12-19 record and ninth seed entering the tourney, was supported by a large crowd in the smaller confines of the Convention Center Court, one of two used for the first two rounds of the tournament along with the 6,000-seat Summit Arena. Four players scored in double figures for ASU, led by guard Marcus Hooten's 23 in the comfortable win. ASU overcame its 40.8 percent field goal shooting with a solid free throw effort. "Early in the season we weren't good shooting free throws and we were throwing the ball all around the place, but we've improved," John Brady said. ASU lives to fight another day, taking on tourney top seed Middle Tennessee at 6 p.m. Sunday in Summit Arena. read more >
