Jim Harris' SEC Notebook: Mississippi State's Secondary Acquainted With Hogs Receivers
Dan Mullen's been fairly happy with his Mississippi State secondary play of late, but Saturday's nationally televised game with Arkansas in Little Rock present a different challenge with the Razorbacks' corps of receivers. "They have so many of them," Mullen said Wednesday during the Southeastern Conference's coaches teleconference. "A lot of teams will have a go-to receiver and you can match your best corner against their best receiver," Mullen explained. Saturday Roulette: How Big A Hole Can The Razorbacks Dig Against Vanderbilt And Still Win?
Vanderbilt week is always the week everyone irrationally convinces themselves the Commodores pose a legitimate threat. You won’t get any argument here. I’ve been afraid of the Vanderbilt game ever since last summer when I found out a good friend of mine scheduled her wedding for the day of the game. I’ve been nervous the immorality of fall weddings would somehow negatively influence the Razorback game, but thanks to a scheduling miracle, kickoff will be early enough for minimal conflict. Hopefully, that stroke of good luck is a sign of positive fortunes with this week’s picks. read more >

SEC Notebook: 360 Power Poll; Little Rock's Spencer Keith Faces Tall Task Against Tide

Opening week for the Southeastern Conference sees a troubled LSU team playing Oregon in Arlington, Texas, and a troubled veteran coach in Mark Richt taking his Georgia team 70 miles west to Atlanta to meet Boise State in critical games that could affect the SEC's prestige. Whatever happens Saturday in those games won't deter Texas A&M, however, as the Aggies told the Big 12 Conference Wednesday they were leaving, and that was a regular topic for the SEC coaches during Wednesday's conference call. Auburn announced Friday that Gene Chizik has been bumped to $3.5 million annually. He led the Tigers to a BCS national championship in January. Chizik’s deal seems to put him at No. 4 on the list, just behind Arkansas’ Bobby Petrino. read more >
