Jim Harris: Starting With Hogs' Tyler Wilson Greenwood Well-Represented in Touchdown Club's Awards
A pattern becomes evident with just a quick glance at the brief but illustrious history of the Little Rock Touchdown Club's annual awards. Something's in the water in Greenwood. Daniel Stegall, a former Bulldog quarterback who went on to try professional baseball, was honored as his classification's (4A) player of the year in 2005. Tyler Wilson, who just completed his junior season in leading Arkansas to an 11-2 season, was this year's Southeastern Conference offensive player of the year as chosen by the club. And Drew Morgan, a junior who led Greenwood to yet another Class 5A state crown, was the 5A player of the year. read more >

Bruin Quarterback Fredi Knighten Heads Associated Press Super Team
Fredi Knighten always had the athleticism, and there was no stopping him or Pulaski Academy once he learned how to be a quarterback. Knighten, the Bruins' standout signal-caller, led Pulaski Academy to a 14-0 record and Class 4A state championship this season. Jim Harris: Some Bests and Worsts of Arkansas Sports in 2011

The state of Arkansas saw a year of wonderment, brilliance, the high of victory and the low of unspeakable tragedy in the sports year that was 2011. College football success may have reached an all-time high among the larger Arkansas universities, and even college basketball picked itself off the mat in some locales. The Razorback Nation was rocked by the death late in the season of backup tight end Garrett Uekman, just as the Hogs reached their highest national ranking nearly 34 years leading up to the showdown with LSU. We witnessed two exciting high-profile job searches, and we again cringed at the antics of Arkansans in the professional spotlight. It was quite a year. Here are some feats that stand out as best or worst. read more >

Jim Harris: 4A Pulaski Academy Makes Case For Best Overall Team In Arkansas
The closest anyone came to beating Pulaski Academy in 2011 was Lake Hamilton's 38-28 loss to the Bruins in September. Fayetteville invited PA up for an August scrimmage and, while we put little to no stock in summer exhibition scrimmages and we also know that Fayetteville improved significantly over the season to win the 7A title, the Bulldogs were no match for the Bruins weapons. And nobody snuffed teams defensively quite the way PA did this year. Greenwood was dominant in 5A, but were they this good? It will always be conjecture since we won't see it played out on the field between all the classification winners, but these Bruins, who destroyed 4A-7 rival Malvern on Saturday 63-28 for the 4A state championship, appear to reign supreme over the rest of the state's best. read more >

Pulaski Academy Bruins Cap Perfect Season With 4A Title, Knighten Earns MVP
The Pulaski Academy Bruins, who had never achieved perfection, reached that level Saturday. Senior quarterback Fredi Knighten was nearly perfect in the Class 4A championship game, running for two touchdowns and passing for two others as the Bruins defeated the Malvern Leopards 63-28 in the Arkansas Class 4A championship game in Little Rock. read more >
