Jim's Notebook: Rivals Tangle As UALR Goes For Sun Belt West Crown Against Arkansas State
Simply because it's Arkansas State coming to town, and because the schools' women's teams will meet in the first game of a basketball doubleheader, UALR should enjoy its best crowd of the season Saturday night at the Jack Stephens Center. UALR figured to have the Sun Belt West Division championship already locked up after it played North Texas on Thursday night. Instead, with the Trojans falling 75-67 to the Mean Green, Arkansas State can play the role of a spoiler and deny UALR the title, which would suit Red Wolves Coach John Brady just fine. read more >

UALR's Celebration Delayed In OT Loss to North Texas, 75-67

North Texas made all five of its field goal attempts in overtime and went 6 for 7 at the free throw line to hand the UALR men's basketball team a 75-67 loss at the Jack Stephens Center on Thursday night. Alzee Williams scored a game-high 25 points and Tony Mitchell added a 13-point, 16-rebound double-double to help the Mean Green deny UALR in its bid to clinch the No. 2 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament and an outright West Division championship. read more >

North Texas Beats Arkansas State Red Wolves

Tony Mitchell had 21 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high six blocked shots to lead North Texas to a 76-64 win over Arkansas State on Saturday. Brandan Walton scored a career-high 19 points and Roger Franklin had 10 points for the Mean Green (13-9, 6-3 Sun Belt), which jumped to a 9-2 lead and never trailed. North Texas shot 50 percent from the field overall and made 54 percent of its 3-point tries. read more >

Report: Auburn's Malzahn In The Mix For Arkansas State Job

It's not unusual to hear Gus Malzahn's name associated with head coaching vacancies. The Auburn offensive coordinator and former high school coach in Arkansas has been linked with multiple jobs the last two seasons.
